Welcome to the Vickers Theatre in Three Oaks Michigan, a classic art house and cinema.  Experience our intimate theatre and art gallery and enjoy a unique movie-going experience of independent, documentaries, foreign and foreign language films that we hope will open your minds, enrich your lives and entertain your spirit.

The theatre seats 126 at maximum capacity, including cafe seating, and limited private balcony seating.   We are handicapped accessible.

The theatre is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Phone message and Website remain available. The theatre closes for the season in January/re-opening in February.

 

Kayak and Paddleboard River Rentals in New Buffalo

Third Coast Surf Shop is currently taking reservations for group kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals in New Buffalo. Reservations for groups of up to 70 people are available from May through October.

In New Buffalo: Galien River Kayaking & Stand-Up Paddleboarding, located at the Galien River boat launch, 17440 Red Arrow Highway. The Galien River has little current, allowing for an easy paddle both upstream and downstream. Rentals will also be offered at New Buffalo City Beach. 

In addition to its two retail stores, Third Coast Surf Shop has provided rentals and other services to groups of all sizes since 2005, including service organizations, corporate team-building retreats, summer kids’ programs, and university faculty. Rentals are available by the hour, and group discounts are available.

Kayaks are available in both one- or two-person configurations and feature a stable, “sit-on-top” style for comfort. Stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) are oversized, beginner-friendly boards used with long, canoe-like paddles. Ideal for any age or skill level, both kayaks and stand-up paddleboards allow paddlers to explore any body of water at their own pace. All equipment, including paddles and lifejackets, is provided by Third Coast Surf Shop staff members at the rental sites.

For individuals and small groups, rentals are available both by reservation and on a walk-in basis. Rental operations are open daily from 11 AM to 6 PM mid-May through Labor Day. New Exhibition Honoring American Sculptor Richard Hunt in His 80th Year

Exhibition Opening Friday, June 26, 6-8 PM

The Krasl Art Center is pleased to present this exhibition featuring a selection of monumental public projects and commissions produced by the artist within the past 15 years, including And You, Seas located at the South Pier at Silver Beach in St. Joseph.

Richard Hunt was born in 1935 in Chicago, Illinois. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he graduated in 1957. In 1971, at age 36, Hunt received a retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His prestigious career as a preeminent American sculptor has continued. Today he is one of the most prolific and best known artists of public sculpture in the nation.

A catalog accompanies the exhibition with essays by American art historian Henry Adams, Krasl Art Center curator Tami Miller, and Muskegon Museum of Art curator E. Jane Connell.

Discover the history of the Arts District and Richard Hunt’s ties to our community. Evan LeDuc will speak on the Community Renewal through the Arts Program and Hunt’s Benton Harbor Studio, Scott Elliot will provide insights on the early days of the arts district and Ken Ankli will bring us up to speed on the arts district today. 

12:30-1:30 PM: Intermission

Guests may take a break, watch the film Richard Hunt Sculptor (44 mins), or join a KAC docent for an outdoor walking tour of the KAC grounds and bluff.

1:30-4 PM: Chicago

Art historian Henry Adams will discuss the work of American sculptor Lorado Taft. After, Richard Hunt will share Taft’s influence to his own work and additional artworks that have shaped his career. Chicago Loop Alliance Curator Tristan Hummel will discuss current directions in public art in Chicago.

This year over 900 artists applied for the 145 available spots, which gave our expert jury the chance to select some of the best artists in the nation. Although all very different, the artists have one main goal: to put on a gorgeous, memorable and enjoyable show and sell art. 

In 51 years, the Art Fair has grown from a small regional clothesline art fair into an impressive nationally ranked Art Fair with over 200 artists, representing 32 states and Canada, and attracting nearly 75,000 visitors to Southwestern Michigan.

The Krasl Art Fair is ranked among the top art fair in the country and rated 24th in the nation by Sunshine Artist Magazine and 32nd out of the top 100 by the Art Fair Sourcebook.

Showcasing beautiful harmonies and powerful solo performances, The Tenors Three entertain with a variety of vocal standards, classical pieces and seasonal favorites. Robert Dure was educated at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and the University of Maryland. He has performed in New York, Baltimore and Chicago and is a regular performer throughout Northern Indiana as a soloist. Bruce Johnson is a two-time Teacher of the Year in the South Central School Corp., and is a regular performer in LaPorte and Michigan City. Matthew Daniel is a member of the Chicago Lyric Opera, where he is a regular performer in productions throughout the year. He holds a music degree from IUPUI and a masters from IU South Bend.
