New Buffalo High School Performing Arts Center
La Traviata comes to New Buffalo July 26th. A second chance to view last year’s sold out performance! Robert Swan and Harbor Arts will present the third performance in its Opera series: this Summer--a production of Verdi's La Traviata at the New Buffalo Performing Arts Center, performed in the original Italian by soprano Christine Steyer and tenor Franco Martorana. Audiences will remember Christine from her appearance in the popular Christmas at the Acorn concerts, and from the sold-out performance of this same opera at the Acorn Theater last year. She is an award winning singer whose portrayal of the tormented courtesan is bound to excite audiences again. Sung in the original Italian, the opera features a narration in English that makes the entire plot perfectly clear, so super-titles are not necessary. The opera will be performed in full costume, with minimal sets, and piano accompaniment --yet last years’ ecstatic audience will tell you they felt the opera’s full effect. Ticket prices will be low at $20, $10 for students and seniors, and reservations are recommended. For reservations call 269-469-7876 or email dfadden326@comcast.net. La Traviata is supported by generous grants from the Pokagon Fund, and Berrien Community Arts Foundation, along with New Buffalo Savings and Horizon Bank. The New Buffalo Performing Arts Center is located in the high school at 1112 Clay Street, New Buffalo. http://www.robertswan.net/map.jpg July 26, 2008Moonlight Madness

Judith Racht Gallery
Celebrating their decade-long association, Judith Racht brings multi-media artist Bill Zuehlke to Harbert this summer in a solo show. "Bill's work is like no one else's," says Racht. "The initial visual impact is 'wow!', but then you find layer upon layer of meaning to unravel. What appears on the surface to simply be visual becomes a story or a statement. I've always loved showing his work." Zuehlke attended the University of Nebraska/Omaha and received his MFA from Ohio University. At that time he concentrated on printmaking and painting, but also worked construction. Over the years his art has evolved into multi-media sculpture, often using materials from the hardware store. "Through my work I question society’s values," Zuehlke acknowledges when pressed to discuss it. "Our culture works very hard to make us all the same, rather than accepting individuals. But I don't want to talk about it -- I am a visual artist!" Join us for an artist's reception with Zuehlke in conjunction with the opening of this exhibit, Saturday, July 26 from 6-8 pm EST at the gallery.
