The Harbor Country Chamber of Commerce has launched a new promotion – The Undiscovered Season – encouraging visitors and residents to “Slow Down & Savor” Harbor Country in fall and winter. The promotion includes a print brochure, digital itineraries, and a social media campaign with Pure Michigan.
While many of us prefer to keep this place to ourselves after the summer crowds have come and gone, building a year-round economy is vital to our area. It helps keep people employed, school enrollments up, and provides residents and visitors with experiences not always available in the busy season.
Explore a trail in a park or preserve you haven’t been to before. Take a slow ride through wine country and dawdle at your favorite winery, brewery or distillery, or discover a new one. Get to know the local shopkeepers who have stories to tell and time to tell them.
I’ll be doing all of that and more on my staycation the week after Labor Day. It’s my favorite time of the year – still kind of summery with a hint of fall in the air. Warm enough for the beach, cool enough to indulge in hearty meals and red wine. I also hope to squeeze in a couple of day trips “out of the country” to check out the competition in neighboring beach towns up north.
Need more ideas? We’ve provided a slew of them, plus maps, for family fun, romantic escapes, culinary delights, and activities. Be sure to “Eat Like a Local” at select restaurants featuring Undiscovered Season specials. Check the Calendar of Events for a comprehensive list of harvest and holiday events, entertainment, and special performances.
See you around town!
