Boating, Water Sports, and Beaches in Harbor Country

Harbor Country is fortunate to have access to both the Galien River and Lake Michigan.

The shores of Harbor Country’s New Buffalo harbor area are the perfect place to get out on the water and waves. Public fishing sites, modern boat launches, and marinas are available in New Buffalo – launch your day out on the water! The Galien River has public access for small water- craft. Several businesses that rents boats, jet skis, kayaks, canoes and other water sport.
Public Boat Launch at New Buffalo Beach is located next to the Public Beach off Marquette Drive on the Galien River. The launch is approximately 3,500 feet from Lake Michigan waters. Accessibility to the launch is 24-hours/day during the boating season (May 1 to November). Launch fee includes parking in the adjacent large lot, reserved only for vehicles with trailers. Multiple ramps and piers are available. Season Launch Passes may be purchased from the City of New Buffalo. Ph.269-469-1500 or www.cityofnewbuffalo.org

Galien River Access

Galien River Access –  located on Red Arrow Hwy, just north of Kruger Road at the bridge in New Buffalo Township.  The Galien River quietly winds its way from Galien to New Troy, through Warren Woods State Park and past Union Pier into Lake Michigan. This state-run access area can also be used to launch small fishing boats, kayaks, and canoes.

Road End Access Points

Road End Beach Access Points are mostly used by visitors who walk ro bike to the beach. Parking is  extremely limited. No lifeguards or amenities are available. Pets, ground fires and alcohol are not allowed.

Townline Rd, McKinley St, Miller and Berrien Rd are all located in Union Pier. Visit Pier St Beach in Lakeside.  Harbert St and Cherry Beach may be accessed in Harbert.
